In this car accident photo you can see how well a Mercedes station wagon can hold up to a side impact collision. There isn't any information in the caption on what exactly happened or how fast the other car was going but it seems like the Mercedes held up pretty well. The driver compartment remained relatively intact and the front axle probably took a good brunt of the side force from the other vehicle.
