JPL Builds 50 Foot Robot For A Good Time

JPL Nasa Robot FloatSo this year JPL/Caltech built a giant 50 foot tall robot float with a webcam on the top of it for the Rose Parade. Pre-Rose Parade they appear to be looping a video of a trial run of the float. It doesn't look like they have completed painting it yet as the mockup image on their website is much more colorful than the float is in the trial run video. Check out the main website of the JPL/Caltech floatcam.

View the robot floatcam live (or preview video) on Jan 1st 2005. I'm sure they will have archive videos as well if you view it after the fact.

Now You See It, Now You Don't

Skull Optical Illusion

I was looking around Google and I found a site with a large number of optical illusions on it. I think one of the best ones on the site (even though it states it isn't a proper optical illusion) is this picture of a skull. Except that it really isn't a picture of a skull unless you blur it. The original painting is of something entirely different. It is possible that the artist painted the picture with the two different pictures in mind but you'll have to decide that for yourself. Once you click over to the site, mouse over the image to find out what it really is. Additionally there is a second skull painting here (though not as well done).

Find out what the skull really is.

Flooding + Not so smart people = Bad

Woman drives into Pothole VideoThe video starts off with showing some major flooding in some city in Europe. It then pans to a car which drives into what appears to be shallow water. BZZZZZ. The water isn't really shallow and swallows the entire front of the small car. The lady driving the car makes several attempts to back the car out of the hole to no avail while some old people jabber at her. One old guy walks to the back of the car and attempts to pull on the bumper. At the same time some other lady gets the bright idea that she will go and push on the front of the car (yeah the part that is underwater). Suffice to say she wades into water and then realizes 'HOLY CRAP, this is deep!' right before she gets dunked. You'll have to watch the video to find out how many people it takes to get a car out of a sinkhole.

Watch stunningly smart people play with water.

Amazing Fold A Shirt In One Easy Step

How To Fold A Shirt VideoSo I found this video of how to fold a shirt. Now, you might think why the hell would someone make a video on how to fold a shirt? Well I'll tell you, I fold my own shirts and they don't come out looking like the shirt they folded in this video. And the video is from Asia (which pretty much says it all right there). This might be the professional shirt folding video they show to all the people that fold shirts for Walmart in China. I am awestruck.

Belter Asteroids Flash Game (Asteroids w/ Eye Candy)

Belter Asteroids Flash GameBelter Asteroids is a vastly improved version of the classic Asteroids. If you've never played Asteroids you fly around in a space ship and destroy asteroids. Notable the graphics are awesome. Yeah retro 80s graphics are fun but the graphics in Belter Asteroids take it to a whole new level. With radient backgrounds and flashy graphics this is definately a professionally done flash game. Give this one a go and don't forget to try it in full screen too.

Play Belter Asteroids now.

Funny Job Application to Micky D

So there is a funny job application floating around the internet which is apparently a real application submitted by a 17 year old to Micky D's. I found a pretty complete quote of the application over at Fthisjob.com. Below is an excerpt from the application. Check out the blog on Fthisjob.com to read the whole thing.

SEX: Not yet. Still waiting for the right person.

DESIRED POSITION: Company's President or Vice President. But seriously, whatever's available. If I was in a position to be picky, I wouldn't be applying here in the first place.

DESIRED SALARY: $185,000 a year plus stock options and a Michael Ovitz style severance package. If that's not possible, make an offer and we can haggle.

According to Fthisjob.com they hired him for being so funny!

Crazy Pinwheel Optical Illusion

Pinwheel Optical IllusionI was surfing around the web looking for crazy stuff and I came upon this optical illusion pinwheel. The image is completely static. It does not move. However, when you look at it the pinwheels spin around at the edges of your vision. If you stop your eyes and look directly at a single point in the image the pinwheels will not move. If you let your eyes roam over the image or if you blink repeatedly the pinwheels spin.

Check out the image for yourself!
