Here is a collection of photos by an artist who takes drift wood and makes horses out of a bunch of different pieces. They are surprisingly lifelike looking. They are somewhat of a cross between looking like a real horse, a zombie horse, and a mechanical horse. What really makes them look real is the background setting and pose.
Here's a custom project where a guy made a hot air balloon shaped like Darth Vader's head. The article about it is somewhat light on details but it does say they sent a 3D object file to the hot air balloon manufacturers and then made custom modifications once they received the final balloon.
Here are a couple photos of a transparent car which has a body made out of plastic. According to the originating page it was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show or some such. Does it come with an airbag?
Here's an almost consumer level product which is a 3D laser scanner. It costs around $2500 and you can put any smallish object on front of the scanner to be scanned in. It scans the object and scans a full color texture for the object. Apparently it can also control the turn table to scan the multiple angles of the object automatically. Pair this up with a 3D printer and you have your own almost consumer priced fabrication lab that fits on top of a desk.
So here is a crazy illusion with a black and white image where you stare at the center of a 100% luminosity version of the same photo and after thirty seconds the black and white version looks like it is in color. For me after it looked like it was in color the color "burned" off of it as I moved my eyes away from the center dot that you are suppost to stare at to cause the effect. I assume this illusion is based on the after image effect and the 100% luminosity puts almost an inverted version of the image into the after effect on your eye. Or some such. Also includes a tutorial on how to make your own.
Apparently this company Fabrican Ltd. developed fabric which comes in a can that you can spray on whatever you want. Make a new shirt or add on to current garments. One of the best applications for this technology though is probably in emergency services (ambliance personal, first aid kits, and/or battle medics). You could just spray on a temporary bandage which contained antibiotics, antiseptics, and blood coagulants onto a wound in the field before transport to a medical facility. There appears to be two example photos of the spray on fabric. One of them is at the website of Fabrican and the second is over at We Make Money Not Art which has a t-shirt looking spray on photo. However, it doesn't look like there is any commercially available Fabrican at the moment.
Last year Hasbro released Darth Tater, Star Wars themed Mr. Potato Head. Later on last year they also released "Spud Trooper" another Star Wars themed Mr. Potato Head. This year they are coming out with Artoo Potatoo which is R2-D2 as a Mr. Potato Head. I haven't quite figured out what the Spud Trooper guy is holding in his right hand there. It looks like a potato masher (maybe that's some kind of potate joke where instead of having a blaster rifle ala Star Wars it's a potato masher). So at some point are they going to come out with a Mrs. Leia Potato, Mr. Potato Chewbacca, Jabba the Potato, and Solo Potato?
Pull on your nerd hat and prepare for another one of those OMG WTF moments of "Why didn't I think of that one?". So there is a guy that put togather something called BrickQuest. Basically he took the original board game idea added a little Everquest, a little AD&D, and built the sets with legos and lego characters ala pewter miniatures. One other thing it reminds me of is an old game written in GW-BASIC in the 80s called Wizard.bas in that you don't know what's in the next room until you move there. But wait, that's not all. It has ninjas! Black ninjas and red ninjas and even a Ninja Warlord. What's not to love about this game? As far as I can tell you basically have to buy all the legos yourself and then put it togather with some imagination (or copy the stuff in his images) though he does provide a rulebook. Lego ninja's for the win!
