Here's a video compilation of various high speed camera footage. It starts out with a dart hitting a balloon and then a dart hitting a water balloon. The thumbnail here is the dart hitting the water balloon. It's amazing how the water keeps it's shape after the balloon is gone. Next up is a tall glass which breaks (I assume from a sound vibration) followed by an empty glass water bottle and then a full glass water bottle falling and breaking into pieces. Following this there are various different videos of a glass sphere filled with various things like vacuum and then a tomato hit by a flying pencil. The video finishs up with an apple and another fruit being hit by a bullet.
Here is a pretty good Star Wars fanfilm filmed out in the Maryland woods. The theme is two force users face off in the woods where I assume one of them is a Sith and one is a Jedi. The interesting part about the fanfilm though is the Jedi guy reads a letter from a dead Civil War soldier to his wife. In the context of the Star Wars universe the references to the Civil War and the Revolution fit pretty well. The lightsaber effects are also pretty professional looking. One thing I did notice was that when one of them dies at the end his lightsaber drops but doesn't turn off.
Here's a video from what looks like some kind of tradeshow at the Philips booth where they demonstrate light emitting fabric called lumalive. They have people wearing t-shirts with moving light animations on them, chairs with moving light images in the backs of them, and a couch with the back filled with light moving icons. The video is pretty light on technical details however. As far as I can tell the tshirts look pretty bulky (somewhat like a bulletproof vest). The back of the chair though looks pretty good and the woman even presses in on the light area to show that it isn't just a flat light emitting surface. I'm guess it's either embedded LEDs, electroluminescence, or a flexable LCD.
Here is a video which is taken in time lapse (or at least the video is sped up) of a hot air balloon race which happened in Reno recently. There are all kinds of different hot air balloon shapes in the video even though the majority are your regular hot air balloons. To name a few of the irregularly shaped balloons I see a cow, a bee, an engle, Noah's Ark, Jesus, a stage coach, and what looks like a teddy bear. I believe the eagle was actually a spotter balloon as it takes off and lands before the other ones but I really have no idea. I assume a lot of these balloons are corporate sponsored.
This video has a pretty crazy optical illusion going on in it. Basically you sit there for a minute or so while these diamond lines pulse in the center of the screen. What is weird is if you screen shot the video it looks perfectly normal. However, when you are watching the video the center four or five lines or so seem to be moving towards the center and all the other lines are moving away from the center. When you look away from the optical illusion your vision seems to 'bubble' in the center of whatever you are looking at. It goes away after maybe 10 or 15 seconds. Crazy looking.
This video shows how to make a homopolar motor out of a few household items. You take a battery, a screw, a magnet, and a piece of wire. The magnet goes on the top of the screw and the point of the screw it touching the positive side of the battery. The wire goes from the negative side of the battery to the magnet. This creates a current and causes the screw plus magnet to spin around. Pretty cool little trick the only someone hard to find item would probably be that magnet. It looks like a watch battery but most magnets I've seen are that dull black color.
This video starts out with a hunter spinning away from a charging buck and dropping his rifle. The buck proceeds to pound at the hunter with his front hooves while the hunter scrables around on the ground. In the first round before the guy goes down the buck lands a pretty good shot to the guy's head. From there it consists of the guy trying to fend off the hooves and grab the buck's neck for some unknown reason. As you can see in a fair fight (without the gun) the hunter takes it on the chin for a change. I'm thinking this guy should have retreated instead of falling down to get malled.
Ran across a site with instructions on how to build your own flaming whip with some chain, rope, and metal pipe. You're probably better off NOT building it though as you'd probably accidently wrap it around your leg for an in prompt to BBQ. In lieu of that you can watch the video instead of a guy with a flaming jump rope getting crazy on stage. The flaming torch spinners? Yeah, they have nothing on this guy with his flaming jump rope. I'd even go as far as to say Mad Max might be jealous of the flaming jump rope. There is an additional photo of dual flaming jump ropes after the jump.
