Here's a Swiss guy named Yves Rossy who has developed a personal wing which he uses to fly around after jumping out of airplanes (see video one). Apparently sky surfing just wasn't cutting it so he built this. His latest version has four mini jet engines on it which allow him to go over 120 miles an hour (see video two). Apparently the wing has cost something like 150k British pounds to put togather. As you can see in the screen capture the wings fold up for when he is inside the plane and then open up when he jumps out. His end goal is to be able to take off and land which the jet wing as well instead of launching off a second plane already in the sky.
Here is a video of a guy 'trainsurfing' which is to say he jumps on the back of a bullet train and holds on for dear life until the next train stop. It looks like he attaches some kind of suction device to the back window of the train which has a cable attached to it that he holds onto. According to the caption for the video these bullet trains can reach up to 300 km/h or 186 miles an hour. There are quite a few train surfing videos on YouTube. Apparently the guy in the video died of leukemia in 2006. Hint: Don't try this at home.
So the people in this video decided to find a use for their giant rubber band ball. Apparently that use consists of rolling it down a hill and destroying their car with it. In the first roll the rubber band ball lands on the back of the car smashing out the window. In another couple rolls they miss the car. In the roll featured in the thumbnail for the video the rubber band ball hit the side door full on and embedded itself in the car. The rubber band ball partially fell apart when they extracted it from the car.
Here is a pretty insain video of a couple guys 'ski gliding' from the top of Mount Eiger in Switzerland. What this basically means is these guys have the skydiving parachutes on and skis. Next they push off the top of the mountain and ski/glide down the mountain. They really don't use the skis very much as there is a lot of rock that they are flying over. But what they do use the skis for is to slide and push off various snowy areas. They go down the one slope of the mountain and then turn right down a basically sheer drop and just glide from that point.
There are a bunch of different video clips of this mechanical spider vehicle and here is one of them. Basically the guy sits in the middle of the "spider" and walks it around with some joysticks. One thing I noticed about the legs is that some of them just seemed to slide along the ground as if the weight was on a different foot than some of the feet that were down. I assume this would allow it to walk on more uneven terrain but on blacktop it seems a little strange. It looks like the gas tank is right behind the drivers head. Apparently they also took this Mondo Spider vehicle to Burningman.
Apparently a guy grew this giant pumpkin to set a record and he captured the pumpkin growing on time lapse in this video. The pumpkin goes from a flower to a giant mammoth in the video. Finally at the end of the video they blow up the pumpkin with half a pound of TNT. It looks like they move the pumpkin before blowing it up because there isn't anything else green around it at that point but the field could have died back as well. It looks like they put a board under the pumpkin so it wouldn't rot into the ground before they were read to blow it up.
Apparently this video contains a demo of an automated robot turret that has a 5.5 mm machine gun built into it. The turret costs around $200,000 and was designed to be deployed at the DMZ in South Korea according to some of the other info listed with the video. It comes with a day and a night camera in addition to people tracking and recognition software (which you'll see in the video). One thing I noticed about the tracking "square" that the software places around people was that it seemed to lag behind the person so I wonder if the gun leads in front of them. It also appears to give the people a chance to surrender before it fires on them. Welcome to the future?
Here's an interesting viral video which is actually an advertisement for a industrial blender. The guy in the video takes various objects like brooms, crow bars, golf balls, coke cans, CDs, etc. and blends them up in the blender they are trying to sell. In this video he throws a couple golf balls into the blender and turns them into confetti. It's actually pretty amazing what the blender can do as normal blenders get stuck on icecubes and this thing tears into golf balls like they are butter. Nice viral marketing.
