I saw a photo of a square watermelon over on another blog but there was no additional information to go with it. Looking for more information I came across a site in Japan which talks about square watermelons (and other foods). Apparently they grow square watermelons in a glass box and in Japan they cost something like 10,000 yen a pop at the time the webpage was written. It says they are a luxury item that would be given as a corporate gift. Other foods listed on the page are horse meat (with photo), grilled sparrow on a stick, living fish, and blowfish. So do other melons like cantelope grow square in a box or is the rind not tough enough? Would oranges grow square?

If you are looking for what NOT to buy your local Star Wars nerd for Christmas this has probably got to be at the top of your list. I'd like to know what marketing genius or focus group came up with the idea of a red Darth Vader for Christmas and though it would sell a billion copies. What exactly do you do with a red Darth Vader + yuletide wreath + Christmas light's decorated Star Destroyer background? You can't exactly throw the red Darth Vader down with your other Star Wars nerd toys and get it on can you? What's the play? Darth Vader slipped in some red paint and is REALLY MAD NOW? I think you're way over the top now George. Which part of the continuity of Star Wars does a red Darth Vader fall into? What's next? Darth Vader in a Santa suit? I guess maybe you could stick it on the top of your Christmas tree if you were a real Star Wars nerd.

I thought it would be impossible to beat the blog about the Star Wars Guy camping out. I was wrong. Enter, "The Cubes", a board game(?) or play set for adults where you can simulate corporate drudgery in cubicles. The characters look a lot like Lego characters except they have square heads instead of round. There are four main characters, Bob, Joe, Ted, and Ann. Plus if those aren't enough for you there is an expansion set of figures you can mix and match. There doesn't seem to be any rules which makes me think this is some kind of mimic of "The Sims" video game in the same theme as the movie "Office Space".
